Call Of Duty Havoc Twitter Teases

Exo Zombie Advanced Warfare Havoc

Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare’s Havoc DLC, has been receiving various riveting teases over Twitter recently.

If you have recently taken interest in Call Of Duty’s official Twitter account, you will more than likely have realised it had been suddenly renamed SRVR:ATLAS. This name seems to be a relevant name when it comes to the Exo Zombies mode that this DLC harbors. As well as this suspicious new name, Sledgehammer have been sending out various new Tweets that tell the dark and intense story of Exo Zombies.

If you want to check out all of the intense and gory tweets I recommended that you head over to their Twitter page immediately.

Havoc will be available to Xbox One owners on Tuesday 27th January, whilst it is expected to see the light of day on the PS4 and PC approximately 1 month later.

Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell Review

gat

Since the Saints Row series commenced we have followed the Stilwater, Michigan natives to the most ridiculous of environments- from the floating stag ship in Saints Row the third, to a Matrix style reality in Saints Row 4.  Now, when you thought these malicious criminals had well and truly run out of ideas, good old Johnny Gat decides to come and drag you into Hell.

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell

Series: Saints Row

Developers: Volition, High Voltage Software

Publisher: Deep Silver

Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows

Price: $19.99 USD on Amazon and Steam.

Hell of a Game

Whilst many depict Hell as a violent place ripe with torture and destruction, Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell depicts it as a thriving place, replete with a social system, armies, a king, and even a job system.

This other worldly metropolis harbours menacing skyscrapers that are as black as the devils soul, vicious monster trucks that seem to thrive in this beastly world, and farms with ravaging tentacles protruding from the Earth.

There’s Evil in the Air

Unlike in the past Saints Row games where you can create your own character, this expansion throws you into hell as the notorious Johnny Gat, with the brains of the Saints Kinzie Kensington along for the ride.

Gat Out Of Hell pits these two heroes against hordes of the devils spawn with the goal of saving the boss from marrying the Devils daughter.

gatscreen1

The Devil’s elite soldiers can summon the dead to do their bidding

Gone When the Morning Comes

Considering the fact that Gat Out Of Hell is built upon the structure of Saints Row 4 the gameplay is very similar, excluding the driving, this is because your entry into the afterlife grants you mystical powers as well as a pair of angelic wings that allow you to propel yourself over the vast grounds of Hell.

These powers act as your main defence against the games enemies so as usual you can upgrade them to fit your specifications. Alongside the ability to upgrade your unearthly powers you will also gain the ability to obtain special upgrades for your wings, allowing you to perform aerial attacks or use less stamina during flight.

You will need to perfect you skills with your wings if you wish to take down the Devil

But when the day is done

Despite the two protagonists’ vicious powers, they will need a little help along the way if they wish to take down Big Red- assistance comes in the form of helping some more-than-famous folk such as Blackbeard and Shakespeare.

And The Sun Goes Down

However this is where the game falls flat, as these quests and missions consist of collecting certain objects and returning them to the person in question or surviving a certain number of enemies whilst the other collects the relevant component.

This would not cause too much of a problem if these linear missions were not mandatory in order to complete the campaign.

And The Moonlight’s Shinin’ Through

{rating}

Hell is an amazing environment that is matched only by your angelic wings that allow you to traverse the environment with ease but this new and unique environment does not counteract the linear missions and unsatisfying story.

Gat Out Of Hell surely has some intense and riveting moments, but these moments are few and far between.

Shovel Knight Review

Yacht Club Games have done a fantastic job in what has resulted in the retro style side-scroller Shovel Knight.

Developer/Publisher: Yacht Club Games.

Platforms: Microsoft Windows, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, OS X, Linux, PlayStation Network.

Price: $14.99 USD on Steam (Reviews are ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’), however I managed to get it on sale through the 3DS Store.

Can You Dig it?

“Shovel Knight is a sweeping classic action adventure game with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic created by Yacht Club Games. You play as the eponymous Shovel Knight, a small knight with a huge quest. Shovel Knight has come to this valley with two goals: to defeat the evil Enchantress and save his lost beloved. He wields a ShovelBlade; a multipurpose weapon whose techniques have now been lost to the ages. Always honest and helpful, Shovel Knight is a shining example of the code of Shovelry: Slash Mercilessly and Dig Tirelessly!”

The above quote from Yacht Club Games sums up the game perfectly, so even if you don’t read on at least you know what the game is about and how awesome it sounds.Shovel Knight is a completely original experience, with influence from games that came more than a decade before it.

The game features graphics inspired by 8-bit games such as Super Mario Bros, Final Fantasy, Bomberman, even Metal Gear. The style is fashionably retro, but again manages to make the player feel like they have never experienced anything like it, as the colour is vibrant, levels feel different from one another, bosses are interesting and challenging, and the music- the music is awesome.

You really feel like you are on an adventure when playing the game. You feel for the characters and you want to save your beloved Shield Knight from the Enchantress and her Order of No Quarter, but most importantly you want to keep playing.

Controls and Features

Shovel Knight trades the sword for the shovel, allowing him to not only unleash shovel justice, but also access hidden areas, jump higher and dig for treasure.Movement in Shovel Knight is standard (on the 3DS)- jump B, attack A, with jump and down making for an aerial assault good for tackling bosses and pesky enemies, and up and A is magic.

Gameplay is generally fast paced but never really too hectic, however you will need to work out each enemy’s attack patterns in order to beat them.

Shovel Knight
Shovel Knight meets the treacherous Black Knight

The game also makes use of the 3DS’s 3D feature as the background shifts to create a more dynamic feel, as if you are actually moving through the world.

The lighting even plays a part in the gameplay, for example, in the Spectre Knight’s Lair I fell off of a ledge because the screen goes black and the only light is from short bursts of lightning.

The levels are designed well, and the boss battles leave you feeling the same sense of victory as Dark Souls does, just with a little less agony. NPC’s actually do things too, whether its buying items, levelling up or just finding secrets; and the game makes you laugh with its humorous one-liners.

Our hero can interact with these various characters in the Village hub area, where you can purchase new abilities as you progress with your quest.

Shovel Knight Overall

It is no wonder Shovel Knight surpassed its lifetime goal in 1 month. The game is immensely popular, and with good reason, it’s a great game. In fact I’d put it up there with my top games of the last year, which is pretty amazing considering it’s not a AAA title.

I would recommend that if you have the means that you try this game, as it is definitely worth it. Dig in!

BioWare is Giving Away Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Tavern Songs

tavern-song-article-header

Want to listen to the tavern songs from Dragon Age: Inquisition at your convenience, perhaps in an attempt to make your quaffing and carousing a bit more atmospheric? BioWare is making that easier than ever by giving away an album’s worth of bard tunes for free right now. But only for a short time.

According to the Dragon Age website, demand was high for access to the music so they have assembled 10 tavern tunes — including sagas like “I Am The One,” “Grey Warden” and “Empress of Fire” — into an easy and free to download archive.

“We’ve received many inquiries from our fans asking where they can get these songs, and we’re thrilled that you’re enjoying them as much as we do. As our way of saying thank you for being the awesome community that you are, we’re excited to announce that for the next two weeks, you can download these songs from a desktop computer free of charge!”

The songs are accompanied by the sheet music to Raney Shockne and Inon Zur’s songs, should your band of touring bards  be playing a tavern sometime soon.

Dragon Age Tavern Songs

The Dragon Age tavern music is separate from Inquisition‘s digital original soundtrack, which was made available to those who purchased the game.

Dragon Age: Inquisition’s tavern songs are available to download for free as MP3 files from the Dragon Age website until the 9th of Febuary. After that, BioWare says they’ll be “available for sale on many popular digital platforms.”

Do you have a favourite song from Dragon Age Inquisition? Let us know which one is ‘Your Jam’. If you’re into game music, take a look at the albums available from Bethesda games.

Quantum Break Receives A Release Date

Quantum_Break-660x330

Remedy Entertainment’s upcoming science fiction game Quantum Break is set to release in the second quarter of 2015. The game revolves around a group of “special” humans who have a strong connection with time, allowing for some incredible powers. Quantam Break will allow players to take control of these vicious yet constructive powers that can manipulate time itself, players will use these enticing abilities to grind enemies to a halt, literally.

The developers will also try to attempt what many others have failed, merging their games characters and story with an upcoming TV series that goes by the same name. In a recent statement Remedy believed they had surpassed the development stages and think that they have blurred the line between a TV show and a video game.

Are you interested in Quantum Break? Let us know what other games you’re looking forward to in 2015 in the comments below.

Far Cry 4

Aidan B

I’ve been ringing in the new year plodding through the vast lands of Kyrat in Far Cry 4. When I say vast, I mean it. It might not take me as long to get from one side to the other as it would in Skyrim but it’s a hearty trek.

Source: http://cdn1.mos.techradar.futurecdn.net//art/games/Ubisoft/Far%20Cry%204/FC4_Screen_PvP_Rakshasa_301014_5pm_ParisTime_1414685445-578-80.jpg
Looks like an exciting walk at least!

Having re-played Far Cry 3 somewhat recently, it is pretty obvious that the two games share a striking amount of features. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The Far Cry 3 campaign was addictive and so too is that of its successor. Kyrat’s size does make finding the animal you need to craft upgrades more difficult. This somewhat alleviates the issue of your character’s linear scaling.

Despite a few minor complaints, I’m really loving Far Cry 4. Kyrat itself is beautiful and the writing is superb. Losing split-screen co-op, however, has really hurt my experience. I enjoyed playing through the side story with a friend almost as much as I did the solo campaign. To be perfectly honest, I have no interest in playing online co-op and so I’m being pushed more and more towards Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Final Mix HD

 KRS2

Most of us probably received a game or two for Christmas and the second Kingdom Hearts compilation turned out to be my very awesome gift. I just wrapped up Kingdom Hearts 2 and having recently played number 1, I have to admit number 2 is a bit more boring than the first.

I enjoy the story more in Kingdom Hearts 2 (especially all the stuff with Roxas), but the gameplay is kind of dull. They improved the combat system but all the worlds are much more tedious to explore. There are few puzzles and no platforming. It basically boils down to moving between 4-6 rooms in each world and killing enemies till you can move onto the next room. I admit the platforming in the first Kingdom Hearts wasn’t perfect (perhaps even bad) but I would have liked them to give it another try. Boss fights are still pretty awesome in Kingdom Hearts 2 and I love all the new challenges in the Final Mix version.

Admittedly I did want to cry in this additional scene, so that’s gotta count for something

Fire Emblem: Awakening

Dan

Having been interstate for the last few weeks, my console and PC have been sitting neglected. As a gamer, keeping occupied through the many hours flying across the country doesn’t present too many problems. So long as my girlfriend and I remember to pack all the different types of charger we’ll need.

My Nintendo 3DS has seen a lot of play during these travels sessions. Particularly Super Smash Bros and Fire Emblem: Awakening. Super Smash is great in small bursts, without friends to play with I can only get destroyed by crazy hand once or twice before tedium sets in. There isn’t any real story progression that interests me with Smash. I love the game, but ultimately it’s a game that needs to be played with friends and rivals. Airlines look down on activating wireless co-op just about as much as they look down on climbing onto the cramped economy seats to crotch thrust at your opponent after an intense victory.

Yelling, "Fuck You Samus!" Doesn't go down too well either. Guess Metroid fans fly Qantas.
Yelling, “Fuck You Samus!” Doesn’t go down too well either. Guess Metroid fans fly Qantas.

So that left me with Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Fire Emblem has been a go-to series for me on the handheld devices since the first few made it over to Australia. Similar to Final Fantasy Tactics and Advance Wars, the Gameboy Advance and later the DS/3DS works well with this type of isometric turn based strategy.

The latest game in the Fire Emblem series received some flak for having the option to take away permadeath for your companions and an easier game mode. I’m currently working through a Normal-Classic play through after getting frustrated on Hard in one of the early levels. I still get frustrated and reset often whenever a unit dies (I leave no one behind) but it’s certainly less frequent.

Fire Emblem Awakening battle Ani
This time can we please dodge?

I was enjoying the story, powering through for hours at a time whilst on holidays. The only problem is now that I’m back home, can I put down the Wii U or step away from the PC long enough to finish the tale of Chrom and his pals.

That’s it from us this week. What games have you spent you’re your New Year enjoying? Let us know in the comments!
