Hideo Kojima has revealed at a GDC panel this week that the suspected Metal Gear related trailer The Phantom Pain, which was revealed during the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards, has now been confirmed to be Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.
Kojima also confirmed at the conference that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will consist of both Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, as a clear visual connection can be seen in the Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Debut trailer, which was released this week.
Helped showcased by Kojima’s Fox Engine, which brings out high detail visual graphics in both gameplay and cutscenes the debut trailer opens with a badly injured Snake on an operating table surrounded by doctors. Alongside him is another key character being tended to by doctors that’s concerned for Snakes well-being. The voice for this still yet to be confirmed character resembles closely to 24 actor, Keifer Sutherland.
Soon events from Ground Zeroes surface showing the connection to both titles as Snake and a team of soldiers infiltrate a mother base in an attempt to rescue the man who is shown being tended to alongside Snake.
Snake then awakens from his 9 year coma and the events seen in The Phantom Pain trailer play out seeing a weakened Snake and a man with a bandaged face carefully try to sneak out of the hospital that’s occupied heavily by enemy soldiers.
Kojima also went on to show close to 6 minutes of gameplay, which you can check out below.
