Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Omega Ruby, Coming to 3DS

A familiar ‘new’ adventure is coming for you Pokemon trainers out there.

Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire 2

The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo have announced Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Pokémon Omega Ruby. This pair of Pokémon titles are slated to launch worldwide in November this year exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS.

Their name suggests a reimagined version of the Generation 3 Pokémon games: Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire which originally launched on Game Boy Advance in 2003.

“Pokémon fans will collect, battle, and trade Pokémon in a new adventure,” according to a brief press release. “The new titles promise to take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world.”

The teaser can be viewed here.

The teaser trailer doesn’t provide much apart from box art. Nintendo however has promised to release more details on Pokemon.com in the lead up to the world-wide launch of Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Pokémon Omega Ruby.

The box art for each version was also shown odd, One thing is for sure: it certainly matches the intensity of the little information we do have. Ruby’s Groudon and Sapphire’s Kyogre no longer look half-bored half-paralysed; they really look quite terrifying (Groudon especially).

Some have said that the minor difference in their appearances is indicative of mega-evolutions. After the feature was introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, this is a trend we could expect to continue. Precisely what Pokémon will be getting an update with the mega-evolutions is probably something that will be teased out over the coming months.

Pokémon X and Pokémon Y were the last in the series and were the first to appear on the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS.

While we have so little information, it is difficult to really say anything more about Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Other than yay it’s happening, anything else would only be speculation. Whether you are a young fan itching to play a new adventure or an older one wanting to relive the days of the Gameboy Advance, the updated Pokemon adventure is surely something to look out for.

Are you looking forward to going back to the Hoenn region that was the backdrop for Pokémon Generation 3? What are you looking forward to the most?
