The Sims 4 Announced

The Sims 4

The latest update from EA announcing the release of a fully fledged new Sims game in 2014 has triggered more questions than answers.

According to EA, Sims 4 “encourages players to personalize their world with new and intuitive tools while offering them the ability to effortlessly share their creativity with friends and fans.” It also promises “players a deeper connection with the most expressive, surprising and charming Sims ever in this single-player offline experience.”

This doesn’t tell us a whole lot in terms of specifics of the game. Granted it is likely too early to tell but it does give away the trend they are moving towards. That trend being the highly pushed presence of online sharing with friends, likely continual push for social media integration and the emphasis on single-player offline experience.

Just the mention of single-player offline experience is no doubt EA’s attempt to reassure fans that there will be no Sim City repeat. EA can’t take another hit to it’s already flailing reputation by launching another game that fails to sufficiently support online play in a single player experience.

I have been one of the Sims fans right the original release. I’ve been excited by every announcement for a new Sims but this one I’m a little nervous about. The social immersion and sharing capabilities interest me as much as these next-gen consoles, not a hell of a lot. Maybe I’m at the age where none of my friends play Sims anymore, I don’t know. I do know that I care very little for this seemingly heavy use of showing off to your friends what you’ve made.

I don’t think they will try to push the boundaries in gameplay seeing as Sims Medieval was well and truly a flop. But it would be nice for them to do something out there and different in a way that is pulled off. This most likely will never eventuate though seeing as how The Sims have produced so much money over the years through constant sales and expansions.

There is much speculation and I’m sure much more to come before any more details are revealed.

Do you think the Sims 4 will be a success? What are you looking forward to in this new release? Let us know in the comments below.
