SOE Live Announces Games and Prizes

I’m not intensely in on the eSport’s scene, but as I continue digging around for interesting stories the more I find my original stereotypes of the scene being broken. The upcoming SOE Live has broken my view of first-person shooters and strategy games that seem to fill the eSports world.

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has lot in store for their annual SOE Live tournament. With plenty of games and prizes no one will be disappointed on either end.

SOE Live doesn’t feature your run of the mill shooters and strategy games. Instead the company runs competitions based around MMORPGs and this year they’re going old school. The competition will be featuring Everquest, Everquest II, DC Universe Online and Planetside 2. And for those individuals looking for a break from all the gaming, there will be a costume contest with its own prizes.

Players can expect to receive thousands in cash when they win. The winning team of the Everquest tournament will win $6,000 with $1,000 going to each of the team members. The Everquest II is a race tournament using flying mounts to race in timed heats with the top five racing against one another in the hopes of earning a $1,500 reward for first place.

But one of the big attractions this year will be the recently released Planetside 2 competition. With a total purse of over $10,100 players will need to hone their shooter skills in order to win the $5,000 first place reward.

DC Universe Online players can expect the same kind of questing competition as Everquest, but there will also be PvP event for those looking for a human challenge. Teamed up into pairs competitors will duke it out with other players for a $3,000 reward ($1,500 for both players).

The SOE Live tournament will be taking place, from October 18-21 at the Bally Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. For those looking to find more information on the rules for you can find them at SOE’s website.

The competition is still a month away, but for those of you who want to quest to win some real gold or shoot space soldiers and earn a bounty, best prepare yourself soon or you can expect to be missing out. If only I had the time to play MMOs.
