Venerable Fighting Game Series Gets Tenth Instalment Set For 2015. Mortal Kombat X hits new and old consoles.
Yesterday Netherrealm Studios announced that their flagship franchise, Mortal Kombat, is getting a tenth game some time next year. The brutal and bloody fighter is set to make it to most current and next-gen consoles.
The last outing for the Mortal Kombat franchise was back in 2011 with a reboot and return to the 2D fighting style. Since then the studio has been busy with Injustice: Gods Among Us – proving they have some experience with the next generation of consoles.
The trailer released with the announcement shows series favourites Scorpion and Sub-Zero fighting it out in a snowy forest. It doesn’t show much but a few things are clear:
- A few typical special moves have made it over
- X-Ray moves are making a return
- The fighting style will be similar to Mortal Kombat 9
- Art has taken a darker tone with more menacing costumes

Without much else to go on it is hard to say whether Mortal Kombat X is something to dread or look forward to. But as one of the most renowned fighting games of all time, I doubt it will struggle too much.
Have your say. Are you excited for the laceration, mutilation, and evisceration that is all-but-guaranteed in Mortal Kombat X? Check out the trailer and let us know.
