Most of us agree that 2015 was a pretty amazing year when it came to video games. Looking at Steam sales gives us part of the picture for popular games last year.
Even at Non-Fiction Gaming we couldn’t come to a consenus on a Top-10 list so we thought it would be better to ask you. Some of us spent more time cuddling up to Wooly Yoshis and Squid Kids, others walked the nightmare realms of SOMA.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain (MGSV) represents the culmination of everything series creator Hideo Kojima has worked on in his almost 30-year-long career. Long-time fans of the series had reservations about the changes to the franchise, but it’s so much more than just a bigger or better stealth game than its predecessors.
MGSV has changed with the times to embrace the free-form chaos promised by games like Far Cry 2, where its open world isn’t simply a means to provide an empty checklist of things to do, but rather an invitation to use its surroundings to solve a never-ending set of constantly evolving situational challenges.
Do you enter under the cover of darkness or by day? Do you take the high road or the gulch below as you slink into the enemy’s desert fortress? Do you head straight for your objective, or do you go around abducting soldiers and possibly, damn the consequences?
These moments feel like they’ve been placed by a guiding, directorial hand yet feel completely emergent and organic, a paradox that can only happen in a series like Metal Gear.
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt
The level of passion and care developer CD Projekt RED put into making The Witcher 3 is self-evident; combat is smooth and satisfying, Geralt is more fleshed-out (and flesh-baring) than ever before, the plot eschews video game morality and presents something wholly more ambiguous.
The devs’ commitment to fans (whether it’s free DLC, patches that make managing inventory easier, or humorous additions like an in-game taxman sent to collect money from exploit users) is commendable. From start to finish, you feel like The Witcher 3 is something made by people who made truly cared about it, and who wanted you to have fun with it.
That’s the spirit of gaming right there, and CD Projekt RED encapsulated it perfectly.

Hopefully we can knock some of these games off our Piles of Shame before 2016 hits us with what already looks like an amazing line-up. Damn, now we’re going to have to do a list of most anticipated game for 2016… just when our wallets were starting to recover.
