Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Preview

This year’s Call of Duty has been announced, and it looks like its time for some Advanced Warfare.

The future soldier?

Advanced Warfare

The year is 2054 and war has changed. Now private military companies (PMC’s) control most of the combat around the world, working simply for the highest bidder. Actor Kevin Spacey plays Jonathan Irons, the CEO of PMC ‘Atlas’ who recruits former U.S Marine Mitchell, and starts his war over his beliefs that America has failed numerous times to bring democracy to developing countries.

This is an interesting story idea as it will leave the player not really knowing if they are working for the ‘bad-guys’ or not.

Advanced Gameplay

Working for one of the world’s richest companies, the player has access an advanced arsenal of weaponry, including energy guns and exo-suits which allow the player to jump higher, have increased strength and other numerous smart abilities.

In a recent interview Sledgehammer Games’ co-founder Michael Condrey said that although players will experience some significant changes, the core gameplay still feels like classic Call of Duty, so expect fast-paced gun fights to remain the games’ key gameplay focus.

E3 2014

In the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare trailer below you can see that many things have been re-worked including the graphics, setting, weapons and obviously the gameplay.

In the brief video the main features that stand out to me are: using a car door as a shield, a drone swarm, a grenade that lets you select its ‘mode’ and of course jetpacks!

Also the setting looks really cool, if not slightly over-used in recent first person shooters.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is set to be released on November 4th, 2014 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.
