What We’ve Been Playing
We are being all traditional and stuff here at NFG and bringing you for a second week in a row another ‘What We’ve Been Playing’ article. Read what we’ve managed to fit in, in the way of gaming over the last week and leave your thoughts, comments or abuse below in the comments box.
This week has been all about games in Beta for me. In Diablo III I have been running around as a monk, using the powers of light and kung fu. So far I am enjoying the different play style of generating spirit with my attacks compared to general mana based spells. Whenever I encounter a new enemy there is the option of listening to Deckard Cain or another traveller talking about it, a nice change from having a regular codex entry. I’ll be interested to try some of the other classes once I clear through the first area to King Leoric.
Speaking of King Leoric I have also been playing some DotA 2 this week. While at this stage I’m still a Heroes of Newerth (HoN) fan, some of the skills do transfer over, as HoN is still a DotA clone. I had some issues adapting as I had gotten used to some of the changes S2 Games have made. I will say this for Steam and DotA 2 though, South East Asian match-making servers. Hopefully S2 takes a hint and provides servers for the Australasia and Asian demographics in upcoming patches.
Recently decided to return to my old Dawn of War games; because what problem can’t be fixed with more dakka? Also on the list are Okami, finally getting around to giving that a proper go, and Xenoblade Chronicles – a new JRPG for the Wii. Giant Robots
I’ve been on a bit of a Batman kick this week and I’m currently working through the new game plus for Batman: Arkham City. I’m trying to satisfy the perfectionist in me by wrapping up all of the side missions. I’m even going to attempt to find all of the innumerable Riddler trophies and secrets. I’m also finally giving Bauldur’s Gate II a try finally, though it’s much more challenging than any other Bioware game I’ve played so far. In my spare time I’ve been unlocking more classes in Realm of the Mad God. If you haven’t played it yet, I highly recommend that you do. It’s available on free-to-play now on Steam, so how can you say no to that?
This week was… well, less than fun. Coming up on the end of the semester, so there’s a lot to get done, and exams to prepare for. Luckily, there are video games to keep me from getting so stressed that my head bursts! My friend send me a Resurrection Scroll, (probably just so that they could get the mount. Greedy!) so I’ve been getting back into World of Warcraft this week. I forgot how bad I was at that game… I switched back and forth between that and SW:TOR, since I’m determined to reach the endgame by the time April is over. On the console side, I’ve been playing through Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, which I got for Christmas, but haven’t spend a lot of time with because… well, I don’t know. I just haven’t. And rounding all that off, another of my friends and I have been hitting the multiplayer in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 when we have the time. Another game I’m not very good at. *sigh* Oh, well.
I’ve currently nerded it up this week by following the Starcraft II MLG Winter Championships. It has consequently got me into relearning some great strategies and playing some online games. Marine King Prime better watch out! This has certainly taken the pain away from being away from my beloved 3DS. No idea where it is but I think it’s a sign that Professor Layton 4 was just never meant to be. And I’m in need of a new Android app to get addicted to. Sea Stars was fun but it has definably run its course.
