In a post made on Bioware’s blog this morning, Ray Muzyka, co-founder of Bioware, addressed fans’ problems with the game’s ending directly. Stating that he found the negative feedback to the endings to be “incredibly painful,” Ray goes on to state there is currently a content initiative on the way:
“Building on their research [members of the Bioware team who have been researching the responses to the endings], Exec Producer Casey Hudson and the team are hard at work on a number of game content initiatives that will help answer the questions, providing more clarity for those seeking further closure to their journey. You’ll hear more on this in April.Â
We’re working hard to maintain the right balance between the artistic integrity of the original story while addressing the fan feedback we’ve received. This is in addition to our existing plan to continue providing new Mass Effect content and new full games, so rest assured that your journey in the Mass Effect universe can, and will, continue.”
While this doesn’t actually out and out state that the content in April will change the endings, (it only mentions addressing them, which could be very different), it’s still a safe bet that the content will be quite extensive, in one way or the other. That’s really the only way to address all the negative feedback.
This, too, is something Muzyka commented on, saying that Bioware is always ready to respond to ‘constructive criticism,’ but a lot of the things they’ve been hearing are simply destructive, and won’t be acknowledged at all.
So there you go. If you want something changed in the gaming industry, just keep complaining to the developer (in a constructive way, of course), and eventually, your concerns will be addressed. Maybe that means we can finally put this issue to bed.
